Indian weddings are often multi-day events, deeply rooted in tradition. The main reception is the final event, and it’s celebrated in the form of a big party! From a rich jewel tone color palette to rustic wood details, consider these ten Indian wedding trends for your upcoming wedding. We share a few DIY tips you can incorporate, too!

1. Rustic Wood Accents

Rustic wedding style is trending across all cultures and Indian weddings are no exception. A rich wood backdrop adds rustic charm to ornate wedding reception décor.

DIY Tip: You can transform any space with a DIY faux wood wall like this one.

2. Dramatic Drapes

Framing a special table in a traditional red color creates an eye-catching display. These plush red curtains are a perfect fit! This VIP seating area can be reserved for the bride, groom, and wedding party.

3. Henna-Inspired Patterns

Traditional henna designs inspired the tablecloth and napkins for this table setting. This tablecloth is actually a tapestry that we re purposed for an affordable table-covering. You can see the same swirling patterns in other decor elements, too.

DIY Tip: Recruit creative friends and family to decorate special napkins for each place setting. Using a gold pen, draw henna-like designs on each black napkin. You can use paper napkins and paint pens or cloth napkins and fabric pens.

4. Rich Jewel Tones

Royal purple, deep turquoise, ruby red, and burnt orange are rich jewel tones that are trending for 2016. Greet each guest with a gold glitter fan personalized with your wedding information in this gorgeous color palette. You can customize the back with a DIY menu or program printable so that these pretty paper goods serve double duty.

5. Gold Metallic Embellishments

Dress up the rustic backdrop with an ornate medallion painted gold. Additional metallic accents create a luxurious feel without breaking the bank.

6. Romantic Candle-Lit Tables

Sprinkling mixed metallic jewel tone tealight holders on the tables will cast a romantic glow on the reception area. This jewel-tone take on rustic mercury glass is perfect for an Indian wedding!

Incorporating a few larger lanterns adds height to the centerpieces, and this henna-inspired take on popular rustic wedding decor is so unique!

7. Elephant Details

Elephants have long played a prominent part in Indian culture, and we are excited to see more and more modern takes on this special Indian icon in weddings. This symbol of luck and prosperity can be incorporated in many ways, from the invitations and programs to favors and décor. Swap out the tealight in these gold elephant candle holders and make space for a sweet treat. These elephants make an adorable favor for guests to take home!

Showing guests to their seats with a gold elephant place card holder is another special little detail that will make a big impact.

Finally, tuck elephants into the décor for a whimsical surprise at the foot of the table.

8. Personalized Wedding Glasses

Impress guests with another keepsake they can use at the reception and take home too! Stemless glasses are totally on trend, and you can personalize them with an Indian-inspired design and your wedding details. Choose from modern stemless wine glass and sleek champagne flute options.

9. Unique Seating

Create truly unique place settings with silverware tucked in drawstring bags set atop scalloped plates. These layers of rich colors and textures are sure to wow!

Place a plush pillow where each guest will sit. This is another fun way to incorporate bright jewel tone colors.

10. Feathered Favors

The finishing touch is always a favor for guests to take home. These jewel-tone feather favor boxes fit right into the tabletop décor!

4 beautiful trends modern Indian brides follow these days

Minimalism is the most beautiful trend among modern Indian brides today. The modern woman is making a stylish splash, wherever she goes by opting for tasteful elegance in place of overstated boldness. And going by the Fall 2016 collections, the trend of fashion minimalism is definitely here
to make you fall in love.

Mixing it up. Dazzling yet graceful

While it may be the biggest oxymoron in the fashion world, minimalism is fast making place in the Indian bridal space too. Today's bride embraces her traditions with grace and panache. While the big Indian wedding culture is far from being passe, many modern brides are going minimalistic for their pre-wedding functions and ensembles.

Minimalism isn't just for the modern western-fashion loving girls, but for the modern Indian brides too. To demonstrate exactly how an Indian bride can nail the minimalism trend at her wedding we have bridal stylist Nisha Kundnani on board to tell us all.

With pre-wedding functions becoming almost as important as the wedding day itself, the modern Indian bride is making a style statement by blending the dazzle with minimalistic subtlety. Teaming a jazzy lehenga with a subtle choli or opting for a dupatta that has heavy embroidery is in vogue these days. Shararas, which are low on the dazzle are fast becoming a popular choice for modern brides.

Jackets teamed with kurtis and skirts, crop cholis teamed with plain high waist lehengas, sari gowns, and Victorian lehengas are some of the traditional choices that allow you to stand out. A-line dresses with cap sleeves and off shouldered gowns are also making an entry into Indian bridal fashion, with brides increasingly donning them at pre-wedding functions.

Using colour to highlight your style

Bridal wear isn't just about reds and whites anymore, colour is playing a major role in bringing out a modern bride's style without screaming for attention. Blush, mauve, light teal, ice blue and light mint are great for that minimalistic yet classy style statement and are fast becoming common in bridal ensembles, especially at mehendis and sangeets. Ombres are making a big time comeback in bridal fashion and are ideal for the modern bride looking for a vibrant look without being too glamorous.

Jewellery goes minimalistic and versatile

Chunky jewellery for every wedding function isn't the mantra anymore, although it is still common on the wedding day. For pre-wedding functions, many modern brides are opting for more classic pieces that not only pair elegantly with their ensembles, but can be worn regularly afterwards as a reminder of the love and blessings showered on them at the wedding. Minimalistic and vintage design themes fused with Indian traditions and meaning are in trend. Naturally white and eternal in nature, Platinum's subtle appearance scores high on popularity with the modern bride who likes to embrace modern values.

Natural styling for that elegant look

Classic updos like the chignon and French twist will continue to remain trendy while tousled waves are quite common for the pixie look at outdoor weddings. Fresh and effortless make up styles are dominating bridal trends with clean bright looks, pearly shimmers and mild English rose glows becoming quite common with modern Indian brides. With all these bridal style tips at hand, it is quite easy to be the bride who combines tradition with modernity and exudes elegance that symbolizes the modern Indian woman of today.
